Michael Daiga joined the Department of Education in August of 2017. His primary research interest focuses on mathematics education, specifically looking at teacher’s statistical knowledge in graphical representations. He currently teaches coursework topics that focus on mathematics, mathematical methods, and statistics education.
Before coming to Wittenberg, Michael taught secondary mathematics and business coursework for eight years. He brings a wide range of experience from working with students in urban, rural, and suburban schools. He earned his Bachelors in Actuarial Science from Purdue University, Masters in Teacher Education from Oakland City University, and Ph.D. in Mathematics Education from Indiana University. His dissertation entitled “Preservice Teachers Knowledge and Use of Transnumeration” focuses on what secondary teachers know from implied markings on graphical representations.
Michael is active in the mathematics education research community. He has presented at numerous state, national and international conferences for organizations including the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, the Association of Mathematics Teacher Educators, Ohio Council of Teachers of Mathematics, and School Science and Mathematics Association. He serves as an Advanced Placement reader (Statistics) and as a CAEP-NCTM reviewer each year. His recent presentations and publications focus statistics education, teacher education, teacher knowledge, and transnumeration.
Michael grew-up the son of two teachers: his father (George) was a mathematics teacher and his mother (Rose) a Spanish teacher. Michael is the faculty representative of Athletes in Action for the university. Michael lives in Bellbrook with his wife (Daren) and three children Isaac, Levi, and Anna.
