Dr. Jones’s multifaceted teaching career reflects his interests in various aspects of music education. From conducting pedagogy and ensemble music making to teacher preparation and electronic music composition, he engages with a wide variety of students in the liberal arts setting at Wittenberg. Prior to his graduate studies, Dr. Jones taught general music and middle and high school band in the greater Cincinnati area. He continues to be in demand as a clinician and guest conductor for area schools and honor bands. Dr. Jones has presented clinics at the National Conference of the College Band Directors National Association, the Ohio Music Education Association State Professional Development Conference, and is a contributing author to the renowned and best-selling Teaching Music through Performance in Band series by GIA Publications, Inc.
Dr. Jones holds professional memberships in the College Band Directors National Association, Ohio Private College Instrumental Conductors Association (President 2012, 2014, 2020-22), National Association for Music Education, Ohio Music Education Association, and is an alumnus of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Fraternity and the Madison Scouts Drum and Bugle Corps. He served on the advisory board of the Ohio Chapter of Technology In Music Education (TI:ME), and was Co-Chair of the 2008 OMEA State Professional Development Conference in Cincinnati, one of the largest annual conferences of its kind in the nation.
Dr. Jones received the Bachelor of Music in Music Education from Miami University, where he studied conducting with Gary Speck. He received the Master of Music and Doctor of Musical Arts in Wind Conducting from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music as a student of Rodney Winther. He joined the Wittenberg faculty in 2006.
