Statement on Title IX

Publication Date: September 26, 2017

Dear Wittenberg Community,

Last Friday, the Secretary of Education rescinded the Title IX 2011 Dear Colleague Letter (DCL) and the 2014 Q&A guidance issued by the Department of Education during the Obama administration. Both the DCL and Q&A held institutions more accountable for effectively addressing sexual assault incidents on college campuses, and since their enactment, Wittenberg has made significant progress to provide support and protections ensured by Title IX.

As a result, and despite recent decisions in Washington, Wittenberg University will not be making any changes to our current Title IX Policy and Procedures Concerning Sex Discrimination, Sexual Harassment, Sexual Misconduct, Relationship Violence and Stalking Complaints (Title IX Policy) at the present time. If changes are recommended by the campus as part of our annual policy review process, we will take into consideration any future guidance provided by the Department of Education.

We remain steadfast in our efforts to create a safe environment in which students can learn, grow, and thrive. While the Department of Education has withdrawn the 2011 DCL and 2014 Q&A, these actions do not in any way change our commitment to responding to and preventing sexual violence on our campus.

Regards,

Michael L. Frandsen, Ph.D.
President
Wittenberg University
